THE CIRCLE OF LIFE

Sometimes it’s just nice to forget about oneself for a while. And maybe during this while you remember the other shinning lights. So forget about you when you see pain in someone eyes. Forget about you when you encounter lack of comfort in someone. Forget about you when you see hunger. Forget about you when you see one or many outside in the cold freezing rain. Forget about you when you find sickness. When you forget about you and think of others if it only briefly, or in small gesture, or attention, it brings light into your soul that never goes away. One of my most memorable life experiences, and one that I will carry to my grave, was volunteering for Guardian Ad Litem. I was blessed with the fortune of monitoring and reporting on the welfare of two young Hawaiian boy’s who were in foster care because both parents were sadly addicted Methamphetamines. Their grand parents wanted to adopt them. I would visit them twice a week and report on their progress. But what was most memorable for me was when I went to the boys karate practice. At the end of practice the instructor had asked all of the young boys in the class to thank someone. Every single young child around the room thanked their parents, but when the two young Hawaiian boys were asked to thank someone, they said ”thank you to my social worker”. This brought and still brings tears to my eyes. My Mother could never see my wrestling matches or soccer games because she was always working. But one of her co-workers whose son was also a wrestler, would videotape my matches so that my mother could watch them later. I would relish these moments watching her eyes seeing me on the TV. So the shinning Hawaiian young boys, will always be shinning in my memory, thank you for bringing LIFE to its full circle in front of my very eyes. The Circle Life, Daniel Alberdeston©2020
